San Antonio Spurs front office executive Danny Ferry is a target of the Philadelphia 76ers as they try to replace president and general manager Rod Thorn, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Ferry met with 76ers ownership and management in Philadelphia this weekend to talk with the team about its general manager job, according to the report.
Collins is a strong advocate of Ferryâs candidacy for the general manager position. The two have a relationship but Ferry remains reluctant to leave for Philadelphia in large part, because he is not sold on the job structure, according to the report.
Thorn has had a rocky relationship with Collins that worsened shortly after general the departure of general manager Ed Stefanski, who worked as a buffer between the two.
Ferry is interested in working in tandem with a coach, as he did when he had a partnership with Mike Brown when Ferry served as the general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2005-2010.
Collinsâ wishes could be a little different since he is reported to want player personnel autonomy, according to the report. Collins' desire for more personnel power is a factor that could hinder the pool of executives that have interest in the job, according to Yahoo! Sports.
