After appearing in 40 minutes for the Spurs Summer League team this year, Alexis Ajinca will stay with Strasbourg according to Euro Basket.

Per the report:

“Alexis Ajinca decided to stay with Strasbourg IG for the next     season. He will sign a contract extension very soon.     Recently, it was reported that reigning ProA champion     Chalon is interested, but that will not happen after all.”

Ajinca posted solid numbers overseas (he averaged 14 points, 5.5 rebounds and two blocks in 17 games last season), a stark discrepancy from his pedestrian numbers in Vegas.

From what Spurs fans witnessed in his four game stint, Ajinca looked considerably slow laterally and, as a result, savvy ball handlers were able to turn the corner on pick-and-rolls and score with impunity. They did so despite Ajinca’s elite wingspan which wasn’t enough to offset his lack of athleticism.

I hypothesized last month that Ajinca, based on his size alone, is deserving of a training camp invite but it appears he rather stay overseas where his size is allowed to flourish against inferior competition.
