Texas Rangers in possible talks with Prince Fielder â" MLB News
While rumours do not cease in baseball during the offseason, reports are stating on Saturday, January 14, that the Texas Rangers are intending to pursue the contract matters with slugger Prince Fielder, the free-agent slugger.
However, the Texas Rangersâ chief executive officer Nolan Ryan talked briefly about the matter on Saturday, saying the talks were preliminary. Ryan is known to have always pursued things with quiet and according to their merit.
Speaking on the matter, he stated that the club met with agent Scott Boras to have an understanding of the status of the sluggerâs free agency.
"We met Prince yesterday and his agent, Scott Boras, to try to get a true feel for where they are at this point in time in his free agency, to see if we thought there might be something there that would work for the Texas Rangers," Ryan said. "It's very preliminary and it's very early in any type of negotiation process. It was an initial meeting that we had."
The Texas Rangers, which as a team known for having always had a strong offence, will certainly feel elevated with the induction of Prince Fielder. Although no speculation should be made at this time, there does exist a chance that both the Rangers and Fielderâs agent go ahead with the talks.
Talking about this possibility, Josh Hamilton, the teamâs outfielder, thought his inclusion would be very interesting for the Rangers as Fielder can "hit bombs ". In Hamiltonâs view, Fielder is a consistent and durable player.
"To imagine our lineup with Prince Fielder in it is pretty ridiculous looking," Hamilton said. "Our lineup is already ridiculous. Prince has been consistent. He's very durable.â
With the likes of Ian Kinsler and Josh Hamilton in the Texas Rangers, Prince Fielder will be an added advantage for the teamâs offence. This will be a harbinger of greater things to come for the club especially when one considers the Rangers previous two year record.
It is only a matter of time now before the club and the fans see the most powerful hitters of the game working together on the same team.
