COASTAL BEND â" Mike Adams won't be the only member of the Texas Rangers organization in South Texas when the Rangers' setup man stops at his former school, Texas A&M-Kingsville, to retire his number Friday.
The 2012 Texas Rangers Winter Caravan will be at the Omni Hotel in Corpus Christi before heading to Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Rangers bullpen coach Andy Hawkins and Rangers TV announcer Tom Grieve are scheduled to join Adams at 3 p.m. in the Marina Tower, Rivera Ballroom at the Omni Hotel on Shoreline Blvd.
Hawkins is in his fourth season as the Rangers bullpen coach, He pitched for the San Diego Padres, New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics in an 10-year Major League career, compiling an 84-91 record.
Grieve, the Rangers' general manager from 1984-1994, is starting his 17th year as an analyst for the Rangers. An outfielder for most of his Major League career, Grieve played for the Washington Senators, Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals from 1970-79.
The group will then move to the Memorial Student Union Building on the Texas A&M-Kingsville campus at 6 p.m..
Adams, who pitched for the Javelinas in 1999-2001 and wore No. 31, was traded to Texas in July and worked out of the bullpen as the Rangers went to the World Series for the second consecutive year.
The former Sinton star will be signing autographs for $20. There will be a silent auction as well as a live auction of a signed Adams' Rangers jersey.
Tickets, priced at $50 per person and $1,000 for a table of 10, are on sale at the Javelina athletic ticket office in McCulley Hall or online at www.javelinaathletics.com.
Proceeds from the autograph session, auctions and banquet will benefit the Javelina baseball program.
