As a native Floridian and someone who is rooting for the Miami Heat to get some redemption this time around and take the 2012 NBA Championship, it is good to see them defeat two formidable foes one after the other. First it was the San Antonio Spurs they beat, and they pulled this one off after coming off of a three-game losing streak. Second, it was Thursday night, January 19, 2012, that the Heat put the living legend Los Angeles Lakers underwater with a 98-87 victory.
Something else that also occurred back-to-back is the fact that Dwyane Wade did not play due to an injury. I have no problem with him taking his time to let it heal properly, because I want the Heat in optimal health when it comes to the playoffs and ultimately the finals. Besides, LeBron James and Chris Bosh can easily pick up any so-called slack.
In this game King James scored over 30 points again, and had eights in both the rebound and assist categories. In fact, all but one of the Miami starters scored in the double digits. Actually the Lakers did not do so shabby in the making baskets department either; Pau Gasol had 26 big ones and Kobe Bryant ended up with 24. One of the things that made the difference in this game, however, were the 3-pointers.
It seemed like everyone on the Heat roster made a three point shot in the first half. There was Shane Battier, who had three of them. Then there was Mario Chalmers who drained two. Even Mike Miller and James Jones had one apiece. And I cannot forget James who made two of his own. The Lakers had a few themselves, and in the fourth were sinking quite a few, but it was too little too late.
The Miami Heat pretty much won this game early and the Lakers did not have enough time to dig themselves out of the hole. It was one of those contests where the passing of the torch was becoming quite apparent. It is time for some new serial champions. Go Heat!
